hCG Diet Recipes: Crab Cakes
hCG Crab Cakes are a great choice for your hCG diet recipes. Great crab cakes have very little filler or binder. And those extras really increase the calories. Fortunately, that makes them great fare for an hCG dieter. Perhaps crab cakes used to be a splurge item, now they are a smart choice these days to reach your weight loss goals.
Ingredients
100 grams crab meat or crab surimi
1 t egg whites
½ t corn starch
1 T Red Bell Pepper: sliced thin and diced small
1 T Onion: sliced thin and diced small
¼ t dry mustard
1/2 t paprika
¼ t lemon zest
Directions:
Divide the crab in half. In a chilled bowl, break ½ the crab into very small pieces. Flake the remaining crab into large chunks. Add the onion, bell pepper and lemon zest. Toss lightly to distribute. Lightly beat the egg whites, add the mustard and paprika. Toss crab and egg together. Pat the mixture into crab cakes.
Sprinkle the top of the cakes with ¼ t corn starch. Turn to the other side and repeat. Brown each side in a sauté pan and place in a 300 degree oven for 12 minutes to heat through.
Creating different textures in the crab encourages the mixture to hold together with the fine grain. The larger pieces create a satisfying bite. In addition, the small bit of corn starch helps create a crust on the surfaces of the crab cakes. Fortunately, you can finish cooking them in the oven so the top and bottom doesn’t have to burn as might happen if you try to heat the mixture through in the sauté pan.
Crab is high protein and has lots of flavor. Thanks to these qualities, it’s a great item to include in hCG diet recipes. From a quick dinner to guests, crab cakes are definitely recommended on your diet.
